Summary

The refurbishment of the office complex De Resident in The Hague: a large-scale office renovation project in which the Dutch Ministries of Healthcare and Social Affairs are brought together in one building in The Hague, the Resident. Approximately 62.000 sqm, completed May 2015. The building complex includes the buildings Castalia and Helicon, respectively twenty and fourteen floors. After the renovation, the complex houses the ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and Social Affairs (Social Affairs).

.

The redesign was mainly focused on enabling different contemporary office concepts and providing a combined entrance for both ministries. The upper floors were refurbished into flexible workspaces. The lower floors now offer features with a general character like meeting places and meeting rooms. The former outdoor area between the two buildings Helicon and Castalia, the Parnassusplein, got a roof and thus became the joint, semi-public entrance area for both ministries, including a public cafe, a reception and waiting area. Cepezed was responsible for the design of this new atrium (approximately 2.000 sqm).

DLP guided the design process from inception to completion, as the central project manager / architect at cepezed. A multidisciplinary design team, led by Cepezed including Hofman Dujardin interior Architects and engineering company Antea Group, handled the project. DLP was responsible for the internal team of architects at cepezed and the total multidisciplinary design team, and furthermore for alignment with client and user, contract formation, planning and finance. Under DLPs direction, the design for the atrium was developed into a market-ready design specification. On behalf of the client, DLP reviewed the building submissions and then worked with the selected contractor on the implementation of the design.
